Jamie Oliver in Sainsbury’s Taste Advert

‘Don’t just eat food, taste it’

Again Sainsburys have used a ‘celebrity’ in their advert, however using a celebrity chef (Jamie Oliver) will instantly attract the attention of viewers. The in depth details and time Jamie takes explaining Sainsburys process when it comes to finding food in this advert is to emphasise on how they do the exact same when sourcing good quality food. This advert shows how Sainsburys provide good quality and fresh food which makes using a chef like Jamie Oliver a great partnership its their advertising campaigns. This shows that Sainsburys now understand how to interact and excite their target demographic, they realised that there usually middle class customers aren’t attracted to their stores because of ‘cheap deals’ but for the quality of products provided by Sainsburys.

Sainsbury’s advert from 1999

‘The ad that killed Sainsburys’

I think the biggest problem with this advert is the patronising manner in which the male actor (John Cleese) is speaking to the female shop worker, especially as a huge part of the target demographic will be females. The advert is very cheap, bland and just plain boring, it’s not exciting enough to attract new customers, nothing jumps out and grabs your attention even when the female actress talks about how their customers can save money over other supermarkets it’s just not exciting. This advert was dubbed ‘The ad that killed Sainsburys’ and i personnally think that was down to poor marketing by Sainsburys, they focused to much on cheap deals hoping that would attract customers when in fact they should have researched their target demographic and aimed the advert at keeping them interested and attracting new customers for rival supermarkets.

Take A Closer Look

hashtagIn this brief i was asked to create a piece of art on a 15×15 cm canvas with the caption ‘Take a closer look’.

With the ever increasing popularity in social media we’ve become accustom to these social networking sites logo’s in everyday life. In this piece i created the twitter logo using a very important selling point with the website and that is the hashtag (#).

With this piece i didn’t want people to notice the hashtags in the twitter logo, they would just browse over it and think nothing of seeing the twitter logo again. It shows how numb people have become to these social networking sites that not many of them would spot the differences and wouldn’t think twice about ‘taking a closer look’.

“Winners lose m…

“Winners lose much more often than losers. So if you keep losing but you’re still trying, keep it up! You’re right on track.” Matthew Keith Groves

People who repeatedly fail at doing something have more in common with winners than with losers because winners also commonly experience defeat. Losers are people who do not try at all.
